Microsoft blogging – end of a chapter
By Mike DavisonTed Scoble AKA The Scobleizer – the virtual face behind the Microsoft employee blogging movement has resigned to pursue startup interests elsehere in Silicon Valley. He was at least partly responsible for helping to make the impenetrable and often faceless corporation appear to live and breathe from the inside. Not afraid to criticize at times, his obvious passion and enthusiasm added real value and a new dimension to the Microsoft brand. And now there’s 60 odd thousand other Microsoft bloggers to take things on. Check out this excerpt to get a flavour.
"I was sitting in the studio listening to Robert Fripp a few weeks back play for hours. Why? To find one 2.5-second clip of sounds.
Why take that effort? Cause that sound will play trillions of times over the next decade.
Trillions.
And I’m not overestimating that, either. That’ll happen if Microsoft’s Windows Vista turns out to be a huge sales flop. If it’s successful (and I believe it will be — I’ll be running it on my computers at PodTech after I leave) it’ll be a factor of ten higher than that."
You never even think where those sounds really come from – or the thought and consideration that goes into the software – or the pride. Its pretty infectious.
