Playstation Home

Share
‘Home’ is new virtual social network created for Playstation owners which looks better put together than Second Life with more features and interactivity. Check out this preview. Building an owner’s world is an amazing way to build value into product ownership. It’s also an excellent sales channel as you can download extras directly from the Playstation store in-world.

Tweetvolume

Share
Want to track keywords or phrase volumes on Twitter? Tweetvolume allows users see what the Twitter collective is buzzing about and make comparisons across a range of words and phrases. Here’s one I prepared earlier.
It’s a nice, simply tool for basic analysis of Twitter content. I am wondering what date range is used in the data and whether more complex search [...]

Mobile social networking’s slow start

Share
According to Elizabeth Sherman, head of mobile distribution and content at Revver, there’s only a 2% adoption rate for mobile social networking at the moment - combination of prohibitive tariffs and a lack of imaginatively driven content in my opinion. Despite this slow start the mobile web *is* still going to be the new frontier.
Some interesting opinion [...]

Beer and mash

Share
Well mashup to be precise. This is a funky and highly useful application of the Google maps API. It allows you to find the best beer holes and breweries located in major US cities. Find out where they are, hit the bar and review it afterwards.
Bluurrrpp. More here.

Really interesting piece in the New York Times on the growing importance of data mining in a multitude of disciplines ranging from crime prevention to advertising and marketing. What’s most exciting to us at the moment in this field is use of web based data to predict future consumer purchasing behaviour. Tracking online consumer conversations where ‘intent [...]

WhoseSpace?

Move On, the political awareness and action group are upping the ante in its campaign against MySpace censorship. From Mashable’s Kirsten Nicole;
"The central issues that MoveOn brings up are regarding the slow censorship that MySpace is implementing throughout the site, and its inability to provide sufficient explanations for its actions. Any large entity is going [...]

Dell have used their blog to confirm rumours of a new tablet PC soon to hit the marketplace. Great way to feed interest online and encourage WOM. When will more companies grasp this! People out there want to write about you. Give them something to shout about… and make it exciting.

Plazes gets easier

Share
Some good news courtesy of Tech Crunch. Plazes is about to launch some interesting new features in an attempt to widen uptake of their innovative location based social networking service. The best development seems to be harnessing the Google Maps API which should remove the need for the software download.
More here.
