How did we ever live without social media?

By Molly Flatt

Well, pretty easily, actually. Just as there was a time when we were perfectly capable of meeting someone in the pub without SMS, there was a time when we managed to maintain our friendships without Facebook, talk about the weather without Twitter, and share our creativity perfectly well without Flickr or Metacafe.

But we did live in a way that was much more opaque to marketers. What consumers really thought about brands’ products and advertising was basically a mystery. And the amazing thing is not that we ever lived without social media, but that brands are being so slow to tap into its potential in a serious way.

That’s the gist of my piece that’s just been published in UTalk Marketing’s latest Ezine (yep, we’ve gone a bit publication crazy this week). You can see it below or download the full monty here (it’s on page 7); have a read and let loose in the comments below this post.

Thanks for taking the time to discuss this, I feel strongly about it and love learning more on this topic. If possible, as you gain expertise, would you mind updating your blog with more information? It is extremely helpful for me.
